Who It’s For: These schemes are open to: Property owners with vacant houses or apartments suitable for letting. Investors or developers who want to refurbish and lease or sell to the local authority. Owners of derelict or disused properties that can be economically brought back to standard. To qualify, the property must: Be vacant for at least 12 months. Require repairs to meet rental standards. Be suitable for social housing use. How It Works. Submit an expression of interest to your local authority (Dublin City, Fingal, South Dublin, or Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown). The property is assessed for suitability and repair cost estimates are reviewed. The local authority funds the works, typically up to €80,000, depending on condition. BAYT completes all refurbishment works to the required standard. The property is leased to the authority for a term of 5–25 years (Repair & Leasing), or purchased outright (Buy & Renew). Grant / Funding Details Repair and Leasing Scheme: Up to €80,000 interest-free funding for repair costs. Buy and Renew Scheme: The local authority purchases the property, funding both the acquisition and renovation. Funding covers all essential works such as structural repairs, energy upgrades, heating, plumbing, and finishes.
